Sweet Sips

Sweet Sips is a locally owned brand located just outside of Belleville, that was launched in 2015. I was a new mom to twin girls and looking for an outlet to keep me creative while I was on maternity leave. So I paired together my three favourite things… Coffee, graphic design and #momlife. In 2018 I took a huge leap and left the corporate world to take on Sweet Sips full time so I could be home with my three little girls, and haven’t looked back since.

Many of our mugs are for the Mom that does it all (so pretty much every Mom out there!) and likes to look stylish while doing it. The playful sayings and the bright design adds a punch of colour to otherwise dreary mornings. After a long night up with the kiddos, or late shift at the hospital I want my customers to smile as they grab their favourite mug.

In the first few years Sweet Sips mugs focused mainly on the #momlife sayings. Now almost in our fifth year we not only focuses on Mom, but also Dad, Grandparents, and Godparents, as well as seasonal designs for Fall and Christmas. New designs are being launched throughout the years so there is always something for everyone.

My goal over the years has always been to bring a smile to people faces with our cheeky, sassy and offside sayings. My heart is so happy to know that my customers love their mugs and love sharing them with their family and friends!

Sasspot Creations

Creating Sasspot was all about embracing my inner sasspot and encouraging others to do the same. I had found myself creating and crafting gifts for friends and family and people kept suggesting I make it into a business so I followed their advice and gave it a shot. Along the way, a friend introduced me to the world of thrifting and I started to learn more about fast fashion and the impact it has on our world, so Sasspot quickly became about using thrifted and upcycled fabrics to create my goods. So now the goal is to keep things handmade, sustainable and always sassy so more people can embrace their inner sasspot with pride.

East Coast Mom Designs

Hello! My name is Jenn Nicholson and I am the creator and owner of East Coast Mom Designs.

I started my business in January 2017 in Ottawa, Ontario. The shop gets its name from Halifax, Nova Scotia, where I was born and raised until moving to Ottawa 13 years ago for a job in Nuclear Medicine. I am the mom of 2 sweet little boys who are my world. I started creating jewellery after bedtime to fill the time during Ottawa's cold winter nights!

I am inspired by the coastal beauty of Atlantic Canada and of the rest of the beaches in the world that I've been so grateful to have walked down. Each piece of jewellery is unique, trendy and is infused with reiki energy. My designs cater to all ages and genders and are handmade with only the highest quality gems.

My gemstones are sourced locally from Canadian companies as I believe it's crucial to shop local and give back to the community.

I absolutely love making jewellery and feel that this was my creative calling! I wish you love and light on your spiritual journey.

The Plan B Collective

Sisters, Heather and Emily have a passion for knitting and the environment which is how The Plan B Collective started.  Having a hard time finding suitable knitting bags, they decided to make their own and currently have 3 original designs for a variety of projects.

Ecobags were born out of a need for a tidy car while still being pretty and functional.  However, they can be used for so much more than a garbage bag for your car!

The sisters moved back to Kingston a few years ago with their 3 cats and Heather’s son, an avid soccer player.

Thankfully the industry has caught on and no more stamping on stainless steel washers for this gal.

Jam

My name is John, owner of *jam works* which I started in 2018 out of my home in Kingston, Ontario where I was born and raised.

The name jam comes from my initials.  Back in my younger years I put those initials on score boards of many an arcade machine.  jam stuck.

In those halcyon days I loved two things; computers and wood shop.  Eventually I turned computing into my career, but I never lost interest in making, and in recent years I've combined my virtual world with the physical one.  I design digitally and then turn my work into something I can hold in my hands at the end of the day.  Whenever possible I try to source local, renewable materials.  From cutting boards to display boards, arcade game cabinets to custom signs, my toolbox evolves every day. I like a good challenge, and seeing what comes of it all. I don’t like to call myself just a woodworker; I’m a maker, pursuing new skills all the time.

I have a passion for making people happy and that passion goes into every single candle I pour.

Maple X

I’m Derek Sigurdson, maker of Maple X.  Several years of producing maple syrup at our sugar shack on the north side of Kingston lead to the discovery of this all-natural drink that is maple sap partway processed towards syrup; to a 10% sugar concentration, consistent with most commercial soft-drinks.  It’s delicious and refreshing – and even relatively healthy!  Drink it cold for that mid-afternoon pick-me-up, or as a mix with rum, rye or whisky later in the day.

Essential Designs

It all started with the 1989 Regional Science Fair and a mutual love of candy.  <3

Fast-forward through high school in the 90’s (permed hair and all), university and teacher’s college, first loves, first jobs, endless conversations, all the wine, two weddings, five kids, countless laughs, our fair share of tears, and a love for all things crafty.  So goes the story of the 30-year friendship at the heart of Essential Designs - a line of beautiful handmade lava stone diffuser jewelry, created by besties Sara Sutcliffe and Shalane Kelsey of Napanee, Ontario.

Established in 2018 and inspired by our oily-obsession and our love of all things pretty, the Essential Designs collection consists of a variety of bracelets and necklaces that are both beautiful and functional. Each unique piece is lovingly crafted with high quality gemstones and comes complete with descriptor of the stones’ metaphysical properties.  Creatively nestled into the design of each piece, is lava stone – the oldest and most abundant stone on earth, highly regarded for its grounding qualities.  Thanks to the porous memento of lava’s former life as fiery brimstone, it is a perfect (and pretty) vehicle for diffusing essential oils.  Simply add a few drops of your favourite and enjoy the benefits all day long!

Thanks for checking out Essential Designs!  We look forward to making something special for you.

Stone Bridge Farm Sweet and Saucy Company specializes is jams, jellies, sauces, preserves and baked goods, sourcing local ingredients whenever possible.  My husband and I started our business when we moved back to our family farm.  We started selling vegetables and some jams, but people were enjoying our preserves so much we decided to focus on this part of our business.

Our jams use approximately 1/4 of the regular amount of sugar and have interesting flavour combinations such as Apple Pie n' Bourbon, Blubarb and Raspberry Balsamic.   I like to say "This aien't your Grandma's jam".   Beer Belly Jelly is our trademarked product made with local craft beer from Gan Brewery and is to be enjoyed with your charcuterie board, cheese and cracker tray, or 20 plus other suggested uses we are happy to share.

Your Scented Home

  • Facebook
  • Instagram

Your Scented Home was created out of a love for home fragrance.  As a maker, I believe you must be passionate about the product you are creating.  Scents have always been something that calms me, makes me happy, and makes me feel at home. There is always a certain scent that reminds me of different things in my life, which is where my product line was stemmed from.

Each candle has a name. “Home” for example, reminds me of the scent of fresh baked bread. So that is the scent of the Home candle. Each candle evokes a thought of a coordinating scent.  I use a creamy coconut/soy wax blend that burns clean with little to no soot residue on the jar. The crackling wooden wick creates a beautiful sound and ambience when burning.  I hope you love my line of home fragrance!

Knit and Stitch Sisters are 4 ladies who meet once a week to knit (and crochet) and ......yup, you guessed it, bitch!

We fondly refer to ourselves as the 3 Knitting Bitches and 1 Happy Hooker. I like to think that makes us sound way more interesting than 4 women who sit around and make things out of string. Wouldn't you agree?

Branscombe Sign Boutique

  • Instagram

Hi, I’m Michelle! I started Branscombe Sign Boutique three years ago, after I had my youngest child. I decided to leave my full-time job to stay home with my children, and quickly found that I needed to do something for myself. With a background in marketing and advertising, and a love for home decor, I jumped in with both feet! (Ok, I waddled in slowly, with a toddler on my leg and a baby on my chest.)

Each of my signs are made start to finish in my home workshop in Kingston, Ontario. Branscombe Sign Boutique pieces are available in 4 local stores, plus I’ve recently launched online shopping on my website, and a shop on Etsy. This year, I’m working hard to add new product designs, perfect my skills, and build my brand. I’m so excited to share my new line of modern boho framed designs, and connect with wonderful customers and incredible fellow makers.

Countryside Treasures

  • Instagram

I am the owner/creator of Countryside Treasures.

In my spare time I'm a pet mama of six cats, twelve free-range chickens, our purebred Jack Russell; Khaleesi & a spouse to a loving, supportive man who's a small engine mechanic during his "down" time.

I think I developed an obsession with beeswax candles when I heard that they had natural, air purifying properties. I would always have them lit throughout my home & found that they helped ease my symptoms of asthma & allergies, where no other candle could.

As my obsession grew, I sourced out local beeswax & experimented with candle & wax melt making. At first, my labels were educational & "cute", then I experienced some shit in life & my humor started down a path of its own.

I have since expanded my creations to lip balms, coffee mugs & other handmade gifts from Kingston, Ontario & beyond. My ideal day is one where I am drinking coffee in my living room, with my candle burning & my lips moist. Hope we are a little bit the same.

Follow along our journey as we struggle, grow, love & fight! ♡ xoxo

Creative Pursuits

Local boss girl Melissa Marcucci-Grant is the owner of the Kingston-based Etsy shop, Creative Pursuits.

Specializing in making children's items such as blankets, reading pillows and stockings, Melissa started to flex her creative muscles when she was pregnant with her daughter, Elia.

"We were living in temporary apartment until our home was built so I couldn't ‘nest’ in a traditional sense,” says Melissa.

“After saving many nursery ideas over the years (maybe a little too many!), I still wanted to welcome our little one into an inviting space. So I brushed up on my sewing skills and, four days after moving in, brought our little girl home in her very own homemade quilt," she shares.

Melissa realized that sewing children's items resonated with her because it gave her an outlet to express her creativity and step outside her comfort zone.

Focusing on quality items in colourful, designer fabrics that last, she opened Creative Pursuits as an Etsy shop in the fall of 2019.

Unexpectedly Essential

  • Facebook
  • Instagram

Hi! My name is Lindsey Blanchette and I’m an elementary school teacher and mom to three little boys. I first got into essential oils when I was looking for more natural cleaning solutions after having my third son. This opened the gateway for me to explore all the many different ways of using essential oils. I then became obsessed with the benefits of aromatherapy and needed a portable solution once I returned to work from my maternity leave.

After a bit of research I found diffuser bracelets but that weren’t necessarily my style. I wanted something pretty that I could wear to work but also easy and natural for every day wear.  So, having always been a crafty person, I went to the store and bought myself the materials I needed to make myself a diffuser bracelet. Pretty soon my friends and family wanted one and I realized I had a small business.

Now I also make necklaces, rings, felt diffusers, host make and take parties and provide DIY kits.

Oil up and take a deep breath!

Queen Bee

  • Instagram

Hi, my name is Ashley and I am the candle maker for Queen Bee. My candles are made from beeswax which, I work with a local beekeeper in Kingston, Ontario. I have been making candles for more than 7 years. each candle is hand-poured by yours truly.

Reasons Queen Bee was created, because I have so many different allergies, that I was unable to burn any other types of candles.  I was introduced to beeswax and was hooked after that. Another reason for creating QB was that I wanted to travel. I take most of my profit, and plan trips. I have been able to take 1-2 trips per year for the past couple of years.

QB has grown over the years with adding different products each year. My current product line is mainly candles of different shapes and sizes. This year I have added candles in a cute white bowl, and citronella candles. I am excited to also add in pinecone firestarters for those that are lucky enough to have a wood stove, or a fireplace in their backyard.

I am Leanna ! Quinte West, ON local.  As a wife to a larger business owner, mom of 2 and also fulltime in the developmental services field... things are busy!

Like many others, I started this side hustle while I was on maternity leave with my second child. At the time I thought I had so much time on my hands, and then word spread that there was a new “tshirt girl” in town and business went from 0 to 60 very quickly.

I love mom inspired tees, sarcasm and cussing.  I test out every piece of apparel that I offer to you. My goal is comfort, quality and durability. I do not send you wash instructions for my items because they will withstand whatever you throw at it.

I strive to work with you to bring your ideas to life. Whether it’s for a cozy couch day T-shirt or a professional uniform, I’m invested in your design.

Jax & Pea Tees is a labour of love, inspired by the tiny humans I brought into this world. With coffee in one hand and confidence in the other, I’m fueled and supported by women who empower other women.
